We are very connected and addicted to our concrete cities and computer screens that we forget to visit the beauties of our wild nature around the world. For this purpose, a lot of people create projects and events, to make people get out more and enjoy our natural world.
Thomas Dambo came up with a creative idea to build giant wooden trolls and hide them in wilderness and forests, to make people visit forests and reconnect with nature. He builds enormous sculptures out of recycled materials, to promote the re-using of the different materials.
He said that since he was little, he loved hearing fairytales and folklore stories, dreamt of himself into those magical worlds with trolls and dragons. As a teenager, he wrote his stories as a rapper, put out records, did touring and create himself the universe where he was able to share those stories. Whereas, in this project that you are about to see, all of the above are combined: rapping, nature, recycling and sculptures.
His latest project is called “The 7 Trolls and the Magical Tower” which is a fairytale told through rapping and sculptures, hidden in the forest, realized of recycled materials.
Important facts about his work are:
– The height of seven Trolls ranges from 7 to 18 meters long. The Magical Tower is 17 meters.
– It took Thomas and his 15 friends 25 weeks to build.
– The wood materials are old shelved from supermarkets, pallets and branches from the trees that have fallen.
– The creations are located in a Belgian forest.
