At a mere 172 square feet, the tiny space is compact enough to actually fit but still has enough room to be useful, whether it’s used for storage or for pure fun. In the description, the plans say that this tiny structure can be built in way less than a day—in eight hours, to be exact—when two adults team up for the job.

If you want to add anything extra like HVAC or electricity to this DIY home, you’ll need to do that yourself—it doesn’t include any of those amenities. Other than that, feel free to paint the wooden structure and decorate as you wish—the tiny house is yours to customize!

The studio’s vendor, Allwood, said the structure is intended for backyard use as an extension of a main kitchen, not a permanent residence. It could also function as a yoga studio or pool house. Amazon lists the model as an “ideal home office or guest house.”

The space is divided between a fully enclosed indoor area and an outdoor deck that’s suited for grilling.

The company says their house kit is made from high-quality Nordic wood and is an alternative to the classic log cabin styled structures. “It works well in a variety of surroundings and can be a guesthouse, home office, granny flat, or even a retail space,” says Allwood. “Versatile Solvalla can also be set up on rooftops of multi-story buildings. Assembly of this solid wood structure takes a full day for two adults.”

While tiny homes are often mobile, Allwood’s studio is meant to stay firmly rooted outdoors. It can also be taken apart and reassembled in new locations.

Those who want to transform it into a fully functioning home or guest house will need to install their own electricity and air conditioning, which could increase the cost by thousands of dollars.

Even though you can’t currently purchase it on Amazon, you can order it from Allwood‘s official website for just $6,550, including shipping. All you need to complete the house are some roof shingles and foundation materials, that according to the company shouldn’t cost more than $320.

Despite that the house doesn’t come with a bathroom, Allwood says it’s not too difficult to install one and you can even purchase a DIY kit for that.

By far, the biggest advantage is how quickly the studio can be assembled. Most tiny homes take about three months to build instead of eight hours, depending on the size of the property.

After launching the model in 2018, Allwood said its goal was to sell 250 kits by the end of the year. Thus far, the studio has only two customer reviews on Amazon — one praising the price point and another considering it a rip-off.
