Sports News named Chicago America’s “Best Sports City” in 1993, 2006 and 2010. Ranked fourth among all U.S. cities for “size of the music industry” and “number of concerts and performances.” Chicago (shih-KAH-goh, also known locally as shih-KAW-goh), officially known as the City of Chicago, is the most populous city in Illinois, and the third largest city in the United States after New York. The two parks themselves are connected by a large strip of park called Midway Plaisance, adjacent to the University of Chicago. It also houses the University of Chicago, one of the world’s top ten universities,  and the Museum of Science and Industry. The Obama residence is near the University of Chicago at Kenwood on the city’s south side. In the late 1920s, sociologists at the University of Chicago divided the city into 77 distinct community areas, which can be subdivided into over 200 informally defined neighborhoods.
The streets of Chicago were organized into a grid of streets that grew from the city’s original stretch, which was bounded by Lake Michigan to the east, North Avenue to the north, Wood Street to the west, and 22nd Street to the south. Chicago’s first railroad, the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad and the Illinois and Michigan Canal, opened in 1848. The 2021 CPS class is currently recruiting for the first cohort of the Pathways Partnership program.
